January 2023 Update

We are well into 2023 and I finally have some time to sit down and give a quick update on all things Labeled, Royal Tusk, and another festival for Black and Blue.

1)    Labeled

It is the docuseries that never ends and it goes on and on my friends….

It’s close! I feel like I am saying that every time. But, Chapters 1-5 are complete. Chapters 6 and 7 are locked and in the hands of my brilliant sound wizard, Tomas Andel of Saint Idiot Sound. Chapter 8 will hopefully be picture locked within the next two weeks and then off to sound. It’s my goal to have a finished product by the end of February.

It’s wild just typing that considering everything that has gone into making this series a reality. It’s been over 3 years now. Where did time go?

I am honestly so excited for people to see the series though. I’ve put my heart and soul into this project and worked endlessly on it. I just can’t wait to get it out into the world.

2)    Royal Tusk Short Documentary

During COVID I directed a short documentary with the Edmonton band, Royal Tusk. With COVID and travel restrictions, they had to stay in Edmonton to record their newest studio album (normally they would record in Toronto or Vancouver). So, I was brought on to create a short documentary that centered around the creation of that album. The highs, the lows – all of it captured with a fly on the wall style.

This one has been sitting on the editors’ desk for two years now and it’s finally being worked on. I don’t know why it has taken this long but I am just happy it’s almost ready. I should…hopefully…maybe…have a rough cut in my hands this week. And then it’s revision, revision, revision and a completed short by the end of the month.

Royal Tusk is aiming to release the doc with their new album so stay tuned on that. I’ll keep everyone posted.

3)    Black and Blue

Remember that short film I wrote, directed, and produced? Well, if you don’t here’s the page for it BLACK AND BLUE. I have some fantastic news: it’s screening at the Local Heroes Film Festival with Black History Month at the Muttart Theatre Downtown Edmonton Public Library on Thursday, February 23rd at 7pm. FESTIVAL LINK HERE

I am so honoured to have the film screen at this important festival and so grateful this film has had such an incredible lifespan and lasting impact on the people who have watched it. I never thought I would be four years removed and it would still be playing at festivals. I do have a finished screenplay for the feature film so that could be a possibility in the near future.

If you are in the area I would love to see you there. I am going to be doing a Q&A after the film so feel free to come at me with some hard hitting questions!
