Labeled Docuseries Now Streaming Internationally on Tubi
After more than seven years in the making, I’m incredibly excited to finally say that Labeled is out in the world.
The eight-episode documentary series is beginning its international streaming rollout, with all eight episodes now available on Tubi in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. The series is also beginning to appear on Apple TV and Roku in select territories, with additional platforms and regions still to come.
It’s pretty surreal to finally write that!
Labeled is an eight-episode documentary series following Andrea Heinz, a former dominatrix and escort who spent seven years working in Edmonton’s licensed commercial sex industry.
After being stopped and interrogated while attempting to enter the United States in 2010, Andrea was documented as a “prostitute” and banned from the country. Years after leaving the sex industry, she begins the process of confronting that label and attempting to have her U.S. ban lifted.
Her story becomes the entry point into a much larger examination of the commercial sex industry and the people affected by it.
Across nearly seven hours, Labeled explores sex work, exploitation, human trafficking, legislation, the experiences of buyers and sellers, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) through conversations with current and former sex sellers, survivors, advocates, politicians, police, family members and others.
The series also includes the award-winning fifth episode, The Missing, Murdered, and Forgotten, an intimate examination of the experiences of three Indigenous women who survived abuse, exploitation and harm within Edmonton’s sex industry.
What originally began as a small independent documentary grew into something much bigger than any of us anticipated. Andrea first reached out to me almost seven years ago (December 2019). What followed was years of interviews, filming, research, travel, editing, financing, a pandemic, festivals, legal clearance and eventually distribution through Shadow Pine Studios. There will be a lot more I want to say about that journey when the time is right. For now, I’m just incredibly proud that the people who trusted us with their stories can finally have those stories seen.
Watch the complete series now on Tubi in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico, with additional platforms and territories rolling out very soon! FEELS GOOD!
