Trailer Release and Screening for Calm Down This Is Only The End: The Unfortunates Farewell Story

4 Albums. 13 Years. 200 + Shows. One Final Night. In November 2022, Edmonton’s own “The Unfortunates” got together for one last celebration and played their final show at the legendary Starlite Room. A film account and presentation of their final concert, with interviews from all 6 members— this is the final chapter of their story.

A few months ago I had the pleasure of directing the feature length documentary, ‘Calm Down This is Only the End: The Unfortunates Farewell Story’. Heavily inspired by The Last Waltz, this documentary captures the very last performance and candid, intimate interviews with Edmonton’s own The Unfortunates.

I had the privilege of directing the ‘Caroline’ music video for the Unfortunates (and even directed a music video for lead singer, Tanner Gordon’s solo project in 2021) and since then I have been hooked on their sound. Getting to be part of their final show was an absolutely incredible honour.

One show, one night. No rehearsals. We had three cameras - Sam Reid on stage right, Jose de Los Angeles on a roving camera and I was on the wide static at the back of the house. And then after the show, I conducted interviews with each band member and asked them a series of questions that will be cut in between each song (a la The Last Waltz). I am so happy with how it turned out and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the last show on the big screen at the Metro Cinema. Thank you so much to the Unfortunates for bringing me onto this once in a lifetime project and thank you to my incredible team for making this the smoothest live event ever!
